ANTI-LABOUR PARTIES TERMS OF THE PACT (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, May 19. The terras of the unity pact between the United Australia Party and .the United Country Party disclose that the Country Party has agreed to withdraw all its official candidates from country seats at present held by United Austra lia Party members, thus ending a dispute of long standing. In a statement Mr Bruxner (Deputy Premier} said: “ The Country Party is doing its duty to the State. It requires some sacrifice by our supporters, but I ask them to help not only me but the people of New South Wales and Australia.” THE AGENT-GENERAL REPLY TO PREMIER’S CABLEGRAM. LONDON, May 18. The Agent-general (Mr Willis) cabled a reply to Mr Stevens which he declined to disclose. In a press statement Mr Willis said he regarded Mr Steven’s cablegram as merely a notification of the Ministry’s policy, on which he .was not prepared to comment. “Mr Lang’s instructions have never gone beyond a request for time to pay. I never understood it as a policy of repudiation.” The Premier’s telegram to Mr Willis asked him to desist from advocating the Lang Plan and repudiation, for which course he had no authority from the present Government, and also to cease all negotiations for a reduction of interest with the British bond-holders, as this matter was entirely one for the Australian Loan Council. DAILY HERALD’S COMMENT. LONDON, May 18. The Daily Herald’s diplomatic correspondent says: “Mr Stevens’s action in publicly rebuking Mr Willis has aroused much comment. It is generally considered that the publication of Mr Stevens’s telegram without awaiting Mr Willis’s reply was a deliberate affront, made in the hope of provoking Mr Willis to resign.” UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF WORK FOR 30,000 MEN. SYDNEY, May 19. The Minister of Labour and Industry (Mr Dunningham) has returned from Canberra after interviewing Mr Lyons in regard to unemployment relief. He stated that 30,000 men would be employed on reproductive works almost immediately. A sum of £600,000 would be available for relief works. PARLIAMENT DISSOLVED EDUCATION DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES. SYDNEY, May 19. A proclamation has been issued by the Governor dissolving Parliament and proroguing the Legislative Council until July 5. The Minister of Education/ (Mr Drummond) has annulled the direction of the Lang Government that the employees in the Education Department should become trade unionists.
