PAKEHA DEVELOPS LEAK
VESSEL RETURNING TO PORT (Pick United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 18. The Shaw, Savill liner Pakcha, which left Auckland on Saturday for London, via Cape Horn and Montevideo, developed a slight leak.and is making for Wellington, where she is expected to arrive about 7 o’clock to-morrow morning. The Pakeha. after rounding East Cape, was headed on her course for Cape Horn when the leak was discovered, and the master, Captain Christie, communicated the fact by radio to the Shaw, Savill Company’s office in Wellington on Tuesday. He reported that he was returning to port No details have been received by the company’s representatives in Wellington. The leak is understood to be a comparatively slight one, but in view of tire fact that the ship is fully laden with a valuable of frozen meat and dairyproduce and that she has a long run of some COOO miles to Montevideo, it was deemed proper to put back to the nearest port, which was Wellington. It is understood that no damage has been caused to the cargo. After .the ship arrives to-day she will be surveyed and the leak remedied.
