EVILS OF PRESENT DAY ATONEMENT TO BE MADE. LONDON, May 18. (Received May 18, at 9.30 p.m.) The Rome correspondent of the British United Press states that the Encyclical, which will be issued to-day, appoints Corpus Christi, May '6, as a day of prayer by the faithful, who are to renounce on the eight succeeding days amusements and recreations as an atonement for the evils of the present day, among which the Pope enumerates atheism, Communism, corruption and exaggerated nationalism.
