THE FORTHCOMING ELECTIONS t ANTI-LABOUR PARTIES REACH AGREEMENT (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, May 17. (Received May 17, at 7.20 p.m.) The Premier (Mr B. S. Stevens) will deliver the Government's policy speech early nest week. The new Ministers have agreed to forego their ministerial salaries. The election campaign will begin immediately. The fact that United Australia Party supporters have undertaken not to contest the scats hitherto held by Country Party members and also that an amicable working agreement has been reached lias caused the utmost satisfaction in anti-Labour circles. Eleven seats must be won from Labour in order to give the Stevens Government a bare working majority. At least 10 seats are expected to he won from Labour in country electorates, and probably five in the metropolitan area. MR LANG’S SILENCE BROKEN CRITICISM OP GOVERNOR’S ACTION. SYDNEY, May 17. (Received May 17, at 11.15 p.m.) Mr Lang broke his silence and addressed the Labour caucus to-day. He reviewed the events lending up to his dismissal and criticised the action of the Governor (Sir Philip Game). He declared that if his Excellency had acted constitutionally in dismissing him he would be acting unconstitutionally if he granted supply after the end of May without Parliamentary approval. RESTRICTIONS REMOVED COMPULSORY UNIONISM VETOED. SYDNEY, May 17. (Received May 18, at 0.15 a.m.) The first acts of the Stevens pahinet to-day included the removal of the Lang Government’s restrictions on trade, industry and transport. Compulsory unionism was also vetoed. The Minister of Labour will visit Cam herra in order to try to induce the Federal Government to allocate to New South Wales its full share of the unemployment vote df £1,200,000.
