RETURNED SOLDIERS’ CHOIR
The ranks of the Returned Soldiers’ Choir have been strengthened, and the forces number 68, a well-balanced and effective unit. Rehearsals have been almost perfect in attendance week by week, showing a remarkable wave of enthusiasm and the main objective is to make the first concert of the season a salient factor in this year’s work. The programme offered has been chosen to interest and entertain. Mendelssohns “To the Sons of Art ” is foremost in merit, supported by “ The Village Blacksmith.” “ The Anvil Chorus,” “ Sylvia, “The Tar’s Song,” “Wanderer’s Night Song,” “Softly, Softly Over the Sea.” “ Come to the Fair,” and “ The Long Day Closes.” An innovation will be the opening of the concert with the New Zealand National Anthem, <v God Defend New Zealand.” Mr Maitland M'Cutcheon, the violinist for the concert, needs no introduction. His work is of a very high order and will be looked forward to with interest. Miss Dorothy Stentiford, who will make her debut, is sure to please, possessing as she does great personal charm and a fine voice. Messrs George Crawford and W. Strang are the choir soloists. Mr Stan Jeffs and the soldiers’ quartet will also appear. Mr John T. Leech will be in control. Mr T. J. Kirk-Bnrnnand will be at the piano. ' ' , .
