DEATH OF PHAR LAP
HORSE DELIBERATELY POISONED. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 17. “I have no doubt, distasteful as it is ’ to say it, that Phar Lap was deliberately poisoned,” said Mr H. A. Wolfe, ; an Australian sporting writer, who went to America to report for a group of newspapers the doings of the champion. “ The suggestion that he died from colic is all moonshine,” said Mr Wolfe. “ After investigation it was found that the theory that he had . eaten alfalfa sprayed with arsenate of lead would not hold water.” Mr Wolfe said Phar Lap won the big » race in a common canter, and there was no doubt that with ordinary luck in training, he would have remained unbeaten. He was certain that Ammon Ra would do well in America.
