THE PHOENIX COMPANY, LTD.
The Phoenix Company, Ltd., which was established 74 yearp ago, is the oldest confectionery manufacturing company in the Dominion, and has kept pace with the development of the country. The activities of the company have offered avenues of employment to thousands of young people and adults of both sexes, and its pay roll and capital outlay have been important factors in the economic life of Dunedin and of the Dominion, Notable among the products of the company are “ Court ” chocolates, so well and favourably known from Auckland to the Bluff, and which for quality and variety rank second to none turned out in the Dominion or elsewhere. The Phoenix Company also manufactures a very large range of high-class biscuits, one of the most -popular lines being Phoenix Royal Assorted. This is marketed in attractive cartons containing 20 varieties, and is a delicious assortment for afternoon tea. Another specialty of the company is Phoenix thick peel, which for many years has commanded a very large share of the peel business throughout the Dominion, and it may truly be claimed that it is “still the best." Kruskits, the company’s proprietary sugar of milk rusks, are highly recommended for infante aqjl invalids. The Phoenix cardboard box-making establishment is one of the largest and best-equipped factories for that work in the Dominion, designed to provide, not only for the packing of the company’s own products, but for commodities of every description manufactured in the Dominion, and all requirements of the trade generally—in cardboard boxes, containers, and cartons of all shapes and sizes, fancy boxes of beautiful designs, Christmas crackers, table decorations, and seasonable novelties in endless variety.
