WORLD-FAMOUS PRODUCTS MADE IN NEW ZEALAND.

Twelve years ago Lever Brothers started a Sunlight factory at Petone, a few miles from and now every ounce of Sunlight Soap, Lifebuoy, Lux, Lux Toilet Soap, Hudsons, Rinso, Monkey Brand, etc., is made by New Zealanders. Lord Leverhulme—the great ’ industrial imperialist —did a wonderful thing when he decided that every important British Dominion where Lever products were sold was to have a local Sunlight Factory on the spot, employing local labour, purchasing local materials, and contributing its quota to local prosperity. Lord Leverhulme foresaw the preat importance of the goodwill associated with his famous products, and laid down as a fundamental rule for all time — that wherever Sunlight, Lifebuoy, Lux, and any other brand of the wellknown Lever lines was manufactured, the same standard quality must always be maintained. So all the Lever products made at Petone are manufactured to the same high standard of excellence as the same article made at Port Sunlight in England, or Sydney, or Boston, U.S.A., or Sao Paulo in Brazil.

Everyone Ijas a faint idea of the efficiency of the Lever organisation, but

only those can truly appreciate it who have enjoyed a visit to the model township of Port Sunlight in England, where they have their own docks, steamers, hospital, schools, a model inn for visitors, in fact everything that goes to make work a success and life generally worth living. Levers do everything so thoroughly that they even have their own whaling fleets and factory ships in the Antarctic. “ If a thing i 6 worth doing it is worth doing well ” is the everyday motto of Lever Brothers. They decided that there was a definite need for a luxurious supercreamed Toilet Soap, and having the knowledge, the equipment, and the resources, it was logically sound that the development of this new Soap should be undertaken by them. The problems of manufacture being only a secondary consideration, the main objective was to ascertain what the most charming women in the world considered vital in a delicate cleaner and beautifier. The Lever Research Institute, which finds its way into palaces as easily as the most exclusive dressing rooms in Hollywood, ascertained beyond all shadow of doubt exactly what these, most beautiful women considered essential, and the re-

suit was Lux Toilet 'Soap now selling for half the price asked for other toilet soaps of lower quality. There may be an occasional individual who likes a different perfume or thinks another toilet soap suits her skin better, but the fact that 99 per cent, of the film stars, the finest hotels, the most up-to-date steamers and railways will not have any "Other but Lux Toilet Soap now in their first class compartments partly explains why this new Lux Toilet Soap has become one of the best sellers everywhere to-day. In New Zealand on account of our small, scattered population it is hard to get a comparative Idea of values and quantities occasionally. It will be a big surprise' to most New Zealanders to learn that on cartons, wrappers, and containers alone Lever Brothers spend' over £II,OOO a year with New Zealand manufacturers. This is only one little example, but space prevents us from giving many other interesting details which would astonish you concerning the number of workers you help to keep employed in this Dominion every time you buy a Lever product. —18/5/32.
