THE UNEMPLOYED IN COUNTRY DISTRICTS

/ TO THE EDITOR Sir,—Would you please tell me what the position is in regard to the Palmerston district unemployed? I understood by the paper that the stand-down week was abolished. Surely the stand-down week being abolished in the towns that will also apply to the country as well. In the country no depot is available for_ the stand-down week, also the cost of living is dearer, especially what you buy from the grocer and the clothing shops, etc. — I am, etc., Single Young Man. [A statement by the Minister of Employment bearing on the subject appeared in our issue of Monday.— Ed. O.D.T.]
