SPIRITUAL VALUES

REAWAKENING OF HUMANITY ESSENTIAL IN PRESENT CRISIS. (Rer United Press Association.! WELLINGTON, May 16. The Rev. Dr Lauchlan Maclean Watt, minister of Glasgow Cathedral, arrived to-day by the Maunganui from Sydney after spending- three months in Australia, where he acted as preacher at Scots Church, Melbourne. Before leaving England he received from the King a message to the dominions he proposed to visit. The King expressed his deep sympathy with the dominions in their present-day anxieties, and said he shared in all their hopes, and that their loyalty was his most precious possession. _ In an interview the visitor said that the times through which we had been passing were awakening humanity to a perception of the fact that material ideals as the end and measure of life were not abiding things. He had no doubt from his own experience with men and women that the world was swinging back to higher spiritual estimates. He found in Australia a wonderful response to the appeal of religious Dr Watt will return to England by the Mataroa, leaving Auckland on May 28.
