SOVIET READY
THE MANCHURIA ISSUE MASSING OF TROOPS. LONDON, May 6. General Blucher, commanding the Soviet’s Far Eastern Army, in a speech at Khabarovsk, said: “ Jets from the flame of real war are jumping near our eastern borders. Our forces, possessing the latest war machines, are ready instantly to defend our territory.” Consumed \with jealousy .over the Japanese occupation of Manchuria, Russia is massing troops on the Manchurian border. It is believed that several hundred thousand are concentrated near the frontier in Southern Siberia, thoroughly mechanised and well equipped with material and food supplies. The frontier is, it is reported, bristling with new fortifications, double lines being laid for long stretches in Eastern Siberia, and that the railway have been organised to facilitate the transport of troops. The Soviet is heavily producing lighting aeroplanes, including many bombers capable of carrying 47 soldiers each. From Harbin, it is reported that the Japanese operating against the Chinese opposed to the Manchurian Republic have passed Halin, driving 40,000 Chinese towards the frontier. There is a possibility of the Japanese clashing with the Soviet forces.
