KAIKORAI BAND

PRESENTATION OF UNIFORMS A social gathering was held in the Kaikorai Band rooms last evening when the members of the Citizens’ Committee which was set up to assist the band in obtaining new uniforms were entertained and the uniforms were handed over to the band. The president of the band (Mr J. H. Walker) occupied the chair. After explaining the reason for holding the function, the chairman said that the thanks of the band were due to the Citizens' Committee for the excellent work which had been done on behalf of the band. Those who had put forth their efforts to the band’s advantage would look to it to gain once more the proud position which it had held 'years ago. Mr J. Rennie said that the Citizens Committee had chosen a rather unsuitable time to make its efforts to assist the band, but the band was worthy of the interest of the people of Dunedin. All who had worked at the carnival had given of their best. The nest contest would probably be held in Dunedin and he hoped that the band would acquit itself with credit. In making the presentation, Air R. M'Lean said that the band had long been in need of new uniforms. A Citizens’ Committee had been formed and a carnival had been held. Considering (he circumstances, the results had proved as good as could be expected. He was confident that the band, would acquit itself well in its future activities. The chairman, in returning thanks for the presentation of the uniforms, said that lie was pleased to be able to state that the uniforms had been made in Dunedin. And they were a credit to the workmanship of the manufacturers. The toast of “ The Kaikorai Band ” was proposed by the chairman, who paid a tribute to the work of the conductor (Air T. J. Kirk-Burnnand) and Mr KirkBurnnand replied. The only other toast honoured was that of “The City Council,” which was proposed by Air J. F. Fraser and responded to by Cr W. A. Scott'.'

During the evening musical items were presented by Messrs Bauchop, N, Clark, and Kerr.
