Frankie Mitchell, a Los Angelos hoy, is the envy of his playmates, for his father owns the California concern that is said ■ to turn out the majority of agate marbles used in the United States. Four-ton blocks of onyx furnish raw material from which they are made. The blocks are neatly sliced into slabs seven-eighths of an inch thick, and these in turn are cut into cubes. Then the cubes are carried in trays of 200, to a rotary grinder, where they become spheres. After a final polishing and calipering for size, the marbles are ready to be sold.
