ST. CLAIR SCHOOL

The monthly meeting of the St. Clair School Committee was held on Friday evening, Mr L. Deans Ritchie (chairman) presiding. The chairman extended a welcome to Messrs P. Grindley and A. Robson. The appointment of Miss Jessie Ritchie to fill the vacancy on the staff in place of Miss Preston was confirmed. The Visiting Committee reported that the work at the school was progressing satisfactorily. All class rooms were exceptionally neat and clean. The school grounds were in good order. The boys were working hard in the gardens. The headmaster’s report showed a ro!!_of 601, with nn average attendance of 579. The percentage, over 96, showed that the health of the children had been excellent. A very significant fact, in view of the prospective legislation on the school age. had been an influx of children of five years of ago. Since the football competitions were started, the A Grade team had won a match and drawn one. The B Grade had lost two matches. The Bantam I team won two and lost one, and the Bantam II won one and lost one. The girls’ competitions will not start till June 1. Two A teams and a R team had been entered for the basket ball and two trams for (he hockey. The committee had inspected the new sports ground, and excellent progress was being made. When completed, the ground would be a full-sized playing area for football, and would be a great asset to the school and the district.
