I SINKING FUND PAYMENTS

PROTEST AGAINST GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSAL.

Replying to a question in the House of Commons regarding the Greek Government’s proposal to use amounts due for the sinking fund on specifically se-' cured foreign loans of Greece for public works the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Neville Chamberlain) stated that he understood that a, statement- in that sense had been made by members of the Greek Government. A formal protest had been made by the . International Financial Commission at Athens against tl?e failure of the Greek Government to carry out its legal obligations, and this protest had been supported by the British, French and Italian representatives. Instructions had recently been sent' to the British Minister at Athens to address a further representation to the Greek'‘Government. The Chancellor added; “ His Majesty’* Government takes the gravest .view of the Greek Government’s action and will not fail to take any steps open to it to protect the legal rights of bondholders.”
