CAVERSHAM RATEPAYERS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the executive of the Caversham Ratepayers’ Association was held in th'e Caversham School recently and was presided over by the president (Mr H. Milne). A complaint was received from residents of Riselaw road that stock was being allowed to wander on the footpaths, causing a nuisance. —It was agreed that the persons concerned should be interviewed. It was also decided that the City Council’s attention should be drawn to the rough state of Riselaw road with the suggestion that it should be metalled and rolled and that screenings should be placed on the footpath, which in wet weather was stated to be very muddy in parts. It was decided to write to the district engineer of the Railways Department pointing out the danger existing on the Valley road near the mouth of the old Caversham tunnel owing to palings being missing from the boundary fence. The question of right-of-ways between the South road and the Valley road was discussed, and it was decided to write to Mr A. M. Sicley inquiring it he could inform the association if, when that portion of land was subdivided, any provision had been made for the right-of-ways. The secretary was instructed to write to the chief postmaster, Dunedin, inquiring if there was now any possibility of having a second delivery of letters, etc., over the whole of the Caversham district. It was resolved that the City Council’s attention should be drawn to the state of the high level footpath in Corstorphinc road, pointing out that a portion of the bank had slipped, rendering the footway dangerous, and also that the channels on the lower side were badly scoured and dangerous to traffic. It was decided that a deputation consisting of the president and Mr Hill should wait on the tramways manager regarding bus facilities for Corstorphinc. Cases of speeding in Caversham and Cargill road between 7.30 and 8.30 a.m. were reported, and. it was decided that the traffic inspector’s attention should be drawn to this matter. It was resolved to write to the town clerk asking that the seat at the Caversham tram terminus should be moved around the corner into Sydney street away from the telephone box. It was decided that the reserve department’s attention should be drawn to the long grass being left in the corners of the children’s playground after the rest had been mown.
The resignation of Mr Crossan, who, o\ving to business reasons, wag , unable to attend the meetings, was received and accepted with regret.
