Tho John, which arrived yesterday morning from northern ports, sailed last evening for Tlraaru, Lyttelton and Wellington to complete loading for New Plymouth and Port Waikato. •

The Poolta sailed last night for Oamaru, Tlmaru and Lyttelton to complete loading for Wellington, Napier and Gisborne. The Walplata, which was delayed at Bluff on Monday owing to bad weather. Is now due at Dunedin this morning. She will sail this afternoon for Tlmaru, Lyttelton, Wellington and Auckland. The KlnlJ which was delayed at Bluff on Monday, 1s expected at Dunedin to-day to discharge a part cargo of coal. She Is to sail to-night for Greymouth and Westport. The Orepukl sailed last evening for Oamaru, Tlmaru and Lyttelton to complete loading for Wellington, Plcton and Wanganui. Tho Holmdale Is due hero this morning from Wellington to discharge and load general cargo. She Is timed to sail to-night for Wellington, Plcton and Wanganui, via ports. The Kalranga, from Auckland, left Wellington yesterday for Lyttelton and Dunedin. She Is due here to-morrow. The Shaw, Savlll and Albion Company's steamer Hermlnlus was expected to arrive at Bluff yesterday from London In ballast. After loading Southland produce for England she will proceed later to Tlmaru, Lyttelton and Wanganui to complete loading. The Union Company advises that the Karctu left Sydney last Friday for FIJI, Tonga, and Auckland. She Is due at Auckland on May 24. The Shaw, Savlll Company advises that the Mataroa was to leave Bluff on Saturday for Plcton, Wellington, Napier and Auckland to complete Homeward loading. She Is scheduled to clear Auckland finally on May 28 for Southampton and London, via the Panama canal. After loading cargo for London, the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rotorua was to leave New Plymouth yesterday for Auckland. She will later proceed to Napier and Wellington to complete her cargo, clearing Wellington finally for London on May 21. The Shaw, Savlll and Albion steamer Pakeha was to leave New Plymouth on Saturday for Gisborne to continue Homeward loading. The vessel Is due at Auckland, her final port, about Friday, whence she will be despatched fur London, via Cape Horn., THE CANADIAN CONSTRUCTOR. The Canadian Constructor, which left Halifax on April 30 for New Zealand, will include New Plymouth as a port of discharge. The Canadian Constructor Is due at Auckland on June 7, and at Wellington on June 10. CARGO FROM PACIFIC COAST. The Golden Bear sailed from Los Angeles on April 30 for Auckland, Wellington, and Australia. She Is due at Auckland about May 2G. The Golden West Is to leave Los Angeles on June 1 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She should arrive at Auckland about June 27. MAHANA FROM LONDON. The Mahana, which sailed from London on April 14 for Suva. Port Chalmers, and Lyttelton, Is due at Port Chalmers about May 28. She will complete discharge at Lyttelton and will commence loading there. Her other loading ports are Wanganui, New Plymouth, Wellington and Auckland, The Mahana Is to sail finally from Auckland on June 18 for London, via Capo Horn. SHEARER ROCK BUOY. The buoy at Shearer Rock, off Tlrl Tlrl (Haurakl Gulf) Is adrift, and has been replaced by a temporary buoy. A buoy will be placed permanently when the Government steamer Hiatal next makes a trip to the north.

WESTMORELAND FROM LIVERPOOL. The Federal Line steamer Westmoreland Is scheduled to clear Liverpool on May 14 with cargo from West Coast ports of Great Britain for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and New Plymouth. She Is due at Auckland on June 17. MATSON LINER MARIPOSA. The Oceanic Steamship Company’s new steamer Mariposa left San Francisco on May 6 and Los Angeles on May 7 for Honolulu, Pago Pago, Suva, Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne on her first trip In the regular transpacific service. The vessel will reach Auckland on May 23 and continue her voyage the same day, reaching Sydney on May 26 and Melbourne on May 30. She will leave Melbourne, the new terminal port in the service, the following day on the return voyage, clearing Sydney for Auckland on June 4. NEW MOTOR SHIP. Mr J. Burns, managing-director of Burns, Philp and Co., Ltd.. Is at present on his way to England to arrange for the building of a new motor ship for his firm. A motor ship, the Macdhui, with accommodation for 183 passengers and a speed of 15 knots, had recently been added to the company’s fleet. The new vessel, for which no contract had been let to date, would be of a similar type, a motor ship of about 5000 tons. Motor ships, Mr Burns was convinced, were ideal for the Island trade, as they gave speed and space was saved. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE. The following vessels were reported to bo within range of the undermentioned wireless stations last night:— . SHIPPING STATISTICS. For London a measure of encouragement is to be found In the shipping statistics for the year 1931. a period marked by acute depression and financial crisis. The shipping traffic of the United Kingdom as a whole fell off by 7 per cent, during the year, a figure considerably less than that recorded by some of the large Continental ports. The decline In the total of tonnage using the Port of London last year was only 3.5 per cent.—a fall from the 1930 total of 58,083,575 net register tons to 56,054,547 net register tons.
