SAWYERS' BAY

The Sawyers’ Bay School, concert was held at the close of the term in the Public Hall before a large and appreciative audience. The items were as follow: — P. 4, “Good King Wcnceslas”;, Elva Brownlee, recitation, “Lost”; Alice Mitchell, " Won’t You Buy ly Pretty Flowers? ” ; Thelma Lean, recitation, “My Dolly”; Standard I Girls, “ Eight Little Mothers”; senior pupils, “Legend of Mullaghmast ” ; Howard Ellwood, recitation, “ They Didn’t Think ” ; Standard I and II girls, Maori song; Noel Glengarry, recitation, “Kitty’s Number Lesson ”; senior pupils, “ Hurrah for a Pirate’s Life ” ; Elsie Patterson, Marjorie Paine, and Elsie Fraser, “Little Miss MufTet” ; Phyllis Macdonald, recitation, “Beg”; senior pupils, “The Village Bells”; Standard 111 pupils, “The Gipsy Camp ” ; Chris Perry and Jim O’Neil, “Little Boy Blue”; Standard I, 11, and 111, "The Year of Jabilo.” Miss Olive Perry played the accompaniments. Miss D. G. Lindsay, who has been second assistant during the past two years and was leaving to take up an appointment in Kensington School, was presented with a lady’s leather handbag. Miss Lindsay’s efficient services were eulogised by Mr L. 11. Ellis (headmaster) and Mr B. D. Poison, chairman of the committee. Miss Lindsay suitably replied, thanking the pupils for the present and the speakers for their kind remarks. At the school on Friday morning the Rev. J. W. M'Kcnzio, who for a number of years lias assisted in conducting the weekly Bible instruction, but whose services are now required continuously at Port Chalmers School, was bidden farewell, and was presented with an eversharp pencil. Mr Ellis referred to the good work which Mr M'Kenzie had so ably performed and to the esteem and affection in which he was bold by the pupils of the school, Mr M'Kenzie suitably replied.
