AUCKLAND, May 9,

An unexpected- sequel to the Palmerston North murder trial was the appearance in tlip Police Court to-day of Norman Robert Decke, who is serving a life sentence for shooting E. J. Blakeway. Decke was charged with obtaining a rifle from N. P. Hansen without _ a permit, and also with having an unregistered firearm in his possession. He pleaded not guilty. Detective Sergeant Doyle, who participated in the investigations which led to Decke’s arrest, gave formal evidence. He said the object of the proceedings was to have the rifle confiscated, as the accused’s father was anxious to obtain it. The accused said it "was not his fault the rifle was not registered. The magistrate made an order for the forfeiture of the rifle. NAPIER, May 9.

Goods valued at £l2O were taken by burglars during the week-end from the premises of Messrs Hallenstein Bros., in Emerson street, shirts, shoes, etc., comprising the bulk of the swag. Rifles and ammunition valued at £4O were taken by the same means from' Messrs Henry Williams and Sons’ premises in Hastings street.
