MACARONI CONTEST

NO FORKS ALLOWED VERONA, April 27. A competition has just been held at Verona to decide in how short a time a dish of macaroni can be eaten without the aid of a fork. A plate containing 11b of the national dish was placed before each of 18 competitors. With their hands tied behind their backs, they fell upon it at a given signal. The winning time was 14 minutes, achieved by a youth of 17. He was followed by a railway porter, who took 10 minutes, and a labourer who took 19 minutes.
