THE LIFE OF PARLIAMENT

TO THE EDITOR.

SIR, —Wo read in the press that the Government is passing a Bill extending the life of Parliament from the three-year term to four years. Though not a political organisation and formed only to try to better conditions for unemployed, we most strongly protest against extending the reign of Parliament. We do not think that the present Government is doing enough to alleviate the conditions of the unemployed. Perhaps it will be said that it has cut out the stand-down week. It certainly has done so, but with a reduced rate of wages, and it is only in the main centres. At least we at Green Island still continue under the old system, so we think that if the present Government holds office for three years we shall have had enough of them without its having an extra year tacked on to its term of office. —We are, etc.. Green Island Unemployed Workers’ Movement.
