M A Press Association message from blew Plymouth states that Mr W. J. Penn, who for 47 years has been on the staS and fop 36 years editor of the Taranaki Herald, has found it necessary, owing to ill-bealt.i, to accept six months’ leave of absence, at the close of which, at his pwn wish, he will retire. Since 1867, when the late Mr Henry Weston acquired the Herald, there have been only two editors, Mr W- H. J. Seffern and Mr Penn, . A very pleasant function took place at the Caversham School on Friday- afternoon, when the members of the staff assembled to say farewell to Miss A. Cable, who has been promoted to the start of the Normal School. . Mr Burns, the headmaster, eulogised Miss Cable g qualities as a teacher, and referred to the service she had rendered as pianist of the school choir. On behalf of the statt ho presented Miss Cable with an attache case, suitably inscribed, and a hatbox, bliss Cable was also the recipient of a crystal vase and a picture from the choir and members of her class respectively.
