M. TARDIEU’S POLICY
TARIFFS AND PHILOSOPHY DEFENCE OF FRONTIERS. LONDON, April 17. The French Prime Minister, M. Tardieu, in an electoral address at Giromagny, said a quota system should he adopted as a temporary counter measure to dumping before a revision of French tariffs brought recovery. Tariff freedom should be accompanied by a business philosophy based on productive and not speculative lines. Revenue and expenditure must be controlled in order to balance the Budget, but the Treasury would lie granted a measure of elasticity.
hi. Tardieu reiterated that it was France’s intention helpfully to adhere to the Danubiau policy, and urged that the new Chamber of Deputies should remain faithful to the League Covenant, assure an adequacy of frontier defence, and maintain a foreign policy founded on fidelity to past and future contracts.
