PARADE OF POLICE
THROUGH SYDNEY’S STREETS GESTURE FOR PUBLIC BENEFIT. (United Press Association.) ■ (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, April 29. (Received April 29, at 10 p.m.) Fifteen hundred members of the New Smith Wales Police Force marched through the city to-day. Cycle patrols, wireless patrols, and “ black marias ” also took part in this most unusual procession, and nothing like it has ever occurred before. Even the police are not aware of the motive. A section of the press described it as a gesture for the public benefit. There were lusty cheers along the route. The Governor (Sir Philip Game) took the salute in the vicinity of Parliament House, and with him were the Premier (Mr J. T. Lang), the chief secretary (Sir M. Gosling), the chief commissioner of police (Sir Childs), and the former police chief (Sir Mitchell). An excited crowd at the saluting base cheered the Premier vociferously when ho was about to depart.
OFFICIAL EXPLANATION. SYDNEY, April 20. (Received April 29, at 11.50 p.m.) The official explanation of the police parade to-day is that it was merely a police review, similar to those held in other parts of the world. It was simply part of police drill and training, and had no other significance.
