ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Welsh Society of Otago was held on Wednesday last, when there was a fair attendance of mem'D6,Fhe annual report stated, inter alia, that the year had commenced with a small credit balance, but one or two small accounts had to be paid. Owing to the economic pressure the present commute*, had little impetus with which to face the year’s... work. The reason why so little progress was made; in the' 1 first year could readily be seen, as, apart from a re-establishment, the former committee was, left with a debit balance from the previous organisation. Definite progress had now, been made, and the society had assets in the form of furniture, costumes, and books. It was recommended that the officers list should be carefully scrutinised by the incoming committee. The only step to progress was by ensuring that the delegate., appointed to certain posts carried out their duties and did not entrust them to others. Arrangements had been made to have included in the past seasons competitions festival a Welsh folk song class. This venture has proved decidedly encouraging, and special thanks were due to the Competitions Society. The section attracted 13 entrants, and a feast of Welsh music was heard. It was recommended that provision should be made to, foster this section again and co-operate with the Competitions Society, which was doing such wonderful work. The total membership roll was 42, the financial roll being 30. Now the society had been reasonably established it was expected that a considerable increase in membership would be shown for the coming season. Apart from severe economic influences, it was pleasant to record such loyal support and steady progress. The society was becoming more and more a recognised organisation, and the requests for cooperative support was one of the sure signs of its usefulness. , , , , , The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. . , . , Mr J.
