COLD-BLOODED MURDER
WATERSIDE WORKER SHOT MEN SEEN RUNNING AWAY. HOBART, April 5. (Received April 6, at 0.15 a.m.) A cold-blooded murder was perpetrated in Harrington street, Hobart, the victim being Charles Whelan, aged 63, a waterside worker living alone, who was shot dead by two men who were later seen running away from the scene. A neighbour heard the men demanding money in the vilest language, and he also heard Whelan’s protests, then a shot, and a curse. The neighbour followed the men for some distance, then returned and found Whelan dead.
