(From Our Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA, March 23. On Saturday a cricket match was played on the Recreation Ground between Alexandra and Becks, the final score being Alexandra 168, Becks 124. * VALEDICTORY. Prior to her departure for Charleston (West Coast), Mrs M. E. O’Neill, who has been teacher at the Galloway School for the past three years and a-half, was accorded a farewell at a complimentary social. During the time she has been at Galloway, by her devotion to duty and efficiency as a teacher, Mrs O’Neil] has greatly endeared herself to the pupils and parents. The Galloway Hall was well filled, residents from all parts of the district being present. The chairman of the School Committee (Mr R. Tohill) presided, and in making the presentation of a solid leather suitcase, said that Mrs O’Neill was probably the best teacher the school had ever had. The school, through her energies, had been very successful in the agricultural and calf-rearing competitions, in which the Galloway children had done wonderfully well. Mrs W. A. Bodkin and Mr Arthur Ashworth also stressed the excellent qualities of the guest of the evening. Mrs O’Neill made a feeling reply. BOWLING. On Saturday last the Clyde and Alexandra Bowling Clubs played _on the Alexandra greens in the championship pairs games. In the final W. Hewitt and J. Provan 14 beat T. E. Sutherland and Mooney 9. , BIBLE CLASS SOCIAL. On Monday evening the combined Bible classes of the Presbyterian Church gave a farewell social in honour of Miss MacDonald, who has been class leader of the f iris’ section for the past five years, luring the evening the presentation of two crystal flower vases was made on behalf of the girls’ class by . Miss Lena Anderson. Miss MacDonald suitably replied. PERSONAL. Mr A. Gibb, chief telegraph engineer, and Dr Barnett, of the Department or Scientific and Industrial Research, were in Alexandra on Monday hearing evidence in connection with wireless coverage.

Mr Stuart Bringans,. of Alexandra, has received an appointment on the teaching staff of the Mataura School.
