TRAIN TELEVISION

DEMONSTRATION IN ENGLAND LONDON, March 10. For the first time in England a television demonstration was given in a moving express railway train. Its purpose was to enable the possibilities of television for the entertainment of passengers to be considered by the London and North-Eastern Railway Company. The company had placed a “ special ” train at the disposal of the Baird Television Company and L. M'Michael, Ltd., who were responsible for the wireless reception.

“ Although there were slight interruptions due to bridges and momentary local conditions, the reception was fairly good even when the train reached 60 miles an hour,” Mr S. G. Allen, of Messrs M'Michael, stated. Other important developments in television are likely to follow the installation of a new short wave wireless transmitting apparatus at the works of the Gramophone Company at Hayes, Middlesex. It is believed by experts that the future of wireless television depends on the successful use of wave lengths of six to eight metres. “ Tlie new transmitter will be used for testing experimental television receivers,” an official of the Gramophone Company said. “It will not be employed for sending out a programme for other ‘ listeners ’ to pick up.”
