ARCHBISHOP REDWOOD’S ADDRESS AT MOSGIEL

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —In the course of his address at Mosgiel on the 20th inst. Archbishop Redwood said a priest was a second Christ. Is it not a fact that a few years ago a priest in New Zealand died worth £20,000, besides other property? I would like to ask the archbishop whether that was in accordance with the teaching of Christ. Again, the archbishop says that the sacrifice of the Mass is the greatest thing there can be in this world. How is it, then, that the Catholics of Roxburgh have had no parish priest residing in their midst for the last few years, and been thus deprived of this great benefit every Sunday? A priest travels from Lawrence every other Sunday, but there was a parish priest here for a number of years under a guarantee of £5 a week. 1 thought Roxburgh was going ahead instead of going back. It is an excellent thing to have a college to educate and priests in New Zealand, but why send to Australia for a bishop? Surely there were a number of qualified men to select from in New Zealand. —I am, etc., More Light. March 21.
