CRICKET
SOUTH AFRICAN TOUR (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH February’ 26. The members of the New Zealand test team, with the exception of Cleverley and Weir, have assembled here, and indulged in practice this afternoon. The wicket at Lancaster Park is in first-class order, and the outfield is good. The prospects are that the match will be played under ideal conditions. THE AUCKLAND MATCH PLAYED IN SPORTING SPIRIT. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, February 26. The South African cricketers arrived to-day from Auckland and were taken for a motor tour this afternoon. They left to-night for the south. Cameron, speaking of the Auckland match, s«-iJ it was played in a fine sporting spirit. The visitors were favourably impressed with the batting of Mathcson and Byerly, both of whom gave sound displays. They saw enough of Vivian to recognise him as a potential first class batsman and enough of Mills to wish, from one point of view at least, they had seen more runs scored off his bat. Allcott bowled remarkably well, maintaining a good length and keeping the batsmen quiet all the time.
