FICTITIOUS PRESS REPORTS FALSE IMPRESSION CREATED, LONDON, February 25. (Received Feb. 26, at 8 p.m.) In the House of Commons Sir Herbert Samuel, in answer to a question, reported that all was quiet at Dartnioor'prison. He contradicted the series of sensational press reports of alleged incidents at Dartmoor and Wormwood Scrubs since February 8, and he expressed the opinion that the House should join in condemnation of the publication of sensational and fictitious reports, which created a false impression at home and abroad of our prison conditions. Since 1914 29 out of 56 prisons had been closed, and a general re-organisa-tion of prisons involved, the removal of a number of convicts from Dartmoor.
