By Sentinel. Nominations for the Riverton meeting are due on Monday. ■''The card for the Beaumont Racing Club’s two-day’s meeting at Easter has been issued. There are seven events each day, including two ■ for pacers and the Molyneux Handicap, which will be decided on the second day, has a stake of lOSsovs, including a stop-watch valued at SOtovs. The Dunkeld Trot carries a cup in addition to the stake money. Nominations for all events are due on Friday of next week. Aladdin, who resumed work in South Canterbury last week after a compulsory retirement for six months, is evidently expected to make a quick- return to form, as he has been nominated for a race at the Waimate meeting. - Although Mr J. Donald has decided to retire Barbacan to the stud, such an event, will have to be postponed till nest season, and he may allow her to run on and fulfil engagements made for her for the balance of the season., These include the Great Northern Oaks. Gran Chaco, the'winner of the maiden event at Woodville, is a four-year-old by Royal Divorce (sire of Royal Love), from Footstep, who is best known in the Soutn Island as the dam of Bulolo. A. M’Aulay will sail for Sydney on Thursday with Nightmarch. During his absence F. Holmes will probably supervise the other members of M Amay s team, namely, Nightguard, Water Polo, and True Shaft. Nightmarch may make his reappearance at Randwick in the Chipping Norton Stakes on March 19 at the Sydney Harbour Bridge celebrations meeting. This is a 10-furlong weight-for-age event with penalties, but as Nightmarch has not won this season he escapes any extra weight. ' „ . I/Allegro has always raced well at ie Rapa, and he was responsible for a firstrate effort when he led from start to tiniah in the Beerescourt Handicap. The race was run in fast time, and the Day Comet gelding put up one of his best performances to win. He .was produced m capital condition, and if he retains his present form more successes seem assured for h!m.\ L’AUegro is an ideal type for hurdle racing, and if put to that game later on is likely to make a name for himself. <. , ’ „ . , The novice hurdler Standfast has conie good very quickly at his new game. At his first attempt over the battens—at Matamata on February 6—he was runnerup. He followed this up by winning in good style at Te Rapa on Monday. Standfast has always shown a preference for a yielding track, and he should do well this winter. Wiltshire, winner of the Grand National Steeplechase iff 1928 1929, was a good third. Standfast did not run yesterday, but Wiltshire was produced, and was again third. His opportunity will come over a longer journey. Pegaway once again demonstrated tnat he is in the front rank as a handicap performer by running third in the chief event of Te Rapa on Monday with 10.0 on his, back. He was right up in the firing line about 150 yards from the post, but owing to being at the tail of the field early in the race, had to cover a lot of extra ground. The Lucullus gelding will have to be seriously considered if he goes to the post in the Hemes Memorial at Te Arena to-day, for he has never been better-than he is at the present B t a ß®High Comedy finished very 1 fast over the' last couple of furlongs in the Presn dent’s Handicap at Te Rapa,.but f all ® a Stftxswflja.sa&p long straights at Te Rapa and Te Arpha favour him to a marked extent, and he should be worth following The victory of Chief Joy in the Storey Memorial Cup was the moat promising y t recorded by the son of Chief Ruler, ana he won like a good horse. He was always one of the leaders throughout the 10 fur longs and finished on very gamely up tne long straight, running out the l°urney imnressive style. Chief Joy is ave y , horse at the present time and should win more important races if-he present form, more so, as he, is now stay in<r on better-than, tormerly. . Day scored his first vietory smce his return from Australia wlren he led the field home in the President’s Handicap at Te Rapa. He began with his usual bn Snfy! P but dropped back in the midfle stages of the.race, and was lying fifth as tSS field turned into the straight. From thenon he put in a good^ finisfimg effort, and got up in time to win by half a lengthNow that Gold Day has struck form again ha is likely to be hard to beat in future sprint events, for his performance was a good one, and right up to th a t 'vhich brought him into prominence last season.
