OBITUARY
MR JOHN DALY MEMBER FOR EAST CORK. LONDON, February 23. (Received Feb. 24, at 6.5 p.m.) The death is announced of Mr John Daly, who was re-elected to the Dail for East Cork in the Government interest. MR J. D. TAYLOR The death occurred in Wellington on February 21, at the age of 72 years, of Mr John Dougald Taylor after a brief illness. Mr Taylor’s father arrived in Auckland from Scotland in the- ship Duchess of Argyle in 1840, Mr Taylor being born at the Spit, Napier. He came to Port Chalmers with his parents in the Stormbird in 1801 when he was scarcely a year old, and was later apprenticed in the bakery trade t;o Mrs Ritchie, who was a well-known resident of Port Chalmers at that time. After remaining in Mrs Ritchie’s employ for 13 years, Mr Taylor commenced business on his own account in Mosgicl, where hs resided for 11 years, then, proceeding to Wellington in 1898, where he had carried on at his trade until two months ago. In his youth Mr Taylor was a keen athlete, and went in for walking and rowing, being one of the original mem* bers of the Port Chalmers Rowing Club. He married the eldest daughter of the late Edward Wignall, of Port Chalmers ; and is survived by his widow, fm daughters, and. two sons.
