UNION v. ALBION. Union sent Albion in to bat, Jacobs and Sampson opening to Maddigan and M'Donald. Maddigan was kicking off the wicket dangerously, and both batsmen were very subdued, several maiden overs resulting. The total reached 19, when Jacobs edged one to M'Beath. ABrooker was dismissed for a single by Maddigan, and Davey went without scoring, Robbie holding a brilliant catch. Geddes snicked an easy one to M'Callum, who dropped it, and was run out in the same over after a patient stand for 12 runs. M'Laren was the next to go. lifting Maddigan for a catch. Palmer joined Geddes, who square cut M'Donald twice in the same over, and Palmer then had his wicket thrown down by Robbie. Geddes put bis leg in front at 14, and, after driving Maddigan for a boundary, Taylor was clean bowled. Dennis drove Maddigan twice to the boundary, and at 20 skied a ball on the leg side and was caught. L. Brooker was held behind the wickets, and the innings closed for the poor total of 78 runs. . Maddigan was the most successful bowler, swinging nicely and turning sharply at times. Borrows and Maddigan opened Unions strike, and took the score past the century by fast cricket, when Sampson held a good catch from Maddigan, who hit out hard for his 49 runs. Meikle joined Borrows, who was caught by Palmer shortly after. He had batted soundly with good shots all round the wicket for his half-century. Meikle hit out at everything sent down, and reached 60 runs before he fell a victim to Davey. His was a lucky strike, his total including three sixes and nine fours. J. Robertson failed to score, being run out through a smart return by Taylor. M'Donald was not comfortable, and was caught in the slips, and at stumps Brown and Hunter were undefeated with 48 and 39 runs respectively, the total reading five wickets for 278. For St. Kevin’s Cahill took seven wickets for 23 runs; O’Connell; two for 11. St. Kevin’s replied with 158 for 10 wickets (Higgins 41, Cahill 38, Oliver 27). For Union Brooks took four wickets for 63 runs; Blair, four for 62. NORTH OTAGO WOMEN’S CLUB f. 1 . The committee of the Gardening Circle of the North Otago Women’s Club met at afternoon tea to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs J. Tait, who are leaving this week on a trip to the Old Country. Mr s Tait is an enthusiastic member of the committee, and the opportunity was taken to express thanks for the interesting talks and the assistance that both Mr and Mrs Tait had always so generously given to the circle, and to wish them bon voyage and a pleasant holiday. A short time was spent discussing various plants, and a visit was paid to the rose beds and the greenhouse, where the begonias are making such a glorious display at the present time.
