STAG CHASED TO THE SEA

HUNTED FOR FIVE HOURS, Crowds of people at Hythc, England, recently watched the frantic efforts of a hunted stag which took refuge in the sea and eluded its pursuers for nearly, five hours before it was lassoed and brought ashore. The stag, which had been released by the Mid-Kent Stag Hunt at Aldington, had been chased for 10 miles. Exhausted, it reached the outskirts of Hythe and was unable to turn back. It crossed a canal, bounded across a mile of shingle, ran into the sea, and started swimming. Three miles from where it entered the surf the huntsmen made an attempt to lassoo it, but it swam further out. Finally, utterly exhausted, the animal was secured with the rope and dragged ashore. It was taken back in a van.
