MELBOURNE, January 16. The number of hotels delicenced since 1907 throughout Victoria is 1750 and the amount of compensation paid £1,117,500. The number of hotels still in existence in Victoria is 1781. A FATAL PURSUIT. MELBOURNE, January 17. (Received Jan. 17, at 5.5 p.m.) While a police patrol was chasing a stolen car at Clifton Hill last night the motor crashed into a truck at an intersection and overturned. Ernest Thurgood, the driver of the truck, was killed, and his companion and five policemen were taken to the hospital. The stolen car escaped.
