RIFLE SHOOTING

DUNEDIN DEFENCE CLUB. The Dunedin Defence Rifle Club shot the second competition for prizes presented by President W. Bannerman on Saturday afternoon. The attendance was 23, and seven shots (one optional sighter) each were fired at 300, 500, and 600 yards. Dull light and a breeze from the left front required care. Several good_ scores were registered. At 300 yards Rifleman R. J. M'Gill was top with 32. At 500 yards Deputy-president J. T. Gillan was highest with 34. Rifleman A. Dippie, with 32, was highest at 600 yards. Deputypresident J. T. Gillan headed the day’s aggregate with 06. The following are the highest scores: —

KAITANGATA DEFENCE CLUB. The Kaitangata Club fired the first stage of the first competition for the Lee Cup on Saturday. There was a fairly good attendance on the range, but though a few good scores were put on the average shooting was poor, a strong fishtail breeze catching most of the shooters badly at times. R. Kitto had a good 33 at 500 yards. M. Brown (32) and R. M'Crostic (31) also shot well at 500 yards. At 600 yards R. M'Croatie topped the score with 32. W. Crowe and M. Brown were next highest with 30 each The following are the leading scores (limit 66): —

CLINTON CLUB. A further trophy was shot for on the Clinton range on Saturday, but the shoot* ing was not up to that of the previous Saturday, the visibility being very bad over the three ranges. Rifleman J. West was the top scorer, thereby gaining the trophy. The following were the scores:—

WEST TAIERI DEFENCE CLUB. On Saturday the West Tnieri Defence Rifle Club fired the second competition for prizes presented by Deputy-president H. W. Brookes and the dub. There was an attendance of 15, and 10 shots each were fired at 500 and 000 yards. Rifleman J. E. Dow was top scorer at 500 yards with a possible—s, 5. 5. 5,5, 5,5, 5. 5. 5—50; being followed by Rifleman V. B. Walker—s 5,5, 5, 5. 4,5, 5,5, 5 40, President A. T. Graham —5,5, 5. 5,5, 5,5, 6. 5, 4—49, and Rifleman D. G. Wyllie and R. Campbell 48 and 47 respectively. At the longer range Deputy-president H. W. Brookes. President A. T. Graham, and Rifleman B. Duff all scored 45, the count back placing them in the order mentioned. The following are the scores, with handicaps:—
