ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
BODY FOUND IN RIVER IDENTITY NOT KNOWN. (Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., January 10. The dead body of a man was found floating in the Manawatu River near the Fitzherbert bridge at mid-day. . His identity has not yet been established. He appears to be a working man between 50 and CO years of age, and had been in the water for three days. The following is a description of the man: Height sft Sin, blue eyes, grey hair, front of head bald, nose broken at one time, short, thick grey moustache; upper jaw contains only front teeth. He was wearing a blue worsted suit with a black shirt and a blue tie. There is a birthmark the size of a shilling in the centre of the upper portion of his chest. FATAL BULLET WOUND (Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N, January 9. Mrs S. Jedson, wife of a Massey College employee, who was admitted to hospital on Sunday suffering from a bullet wound in the stomach, the result of an accident while rabbit snooting at Fitzherbert, died this morning. The deceased was 22 years of age. FOUND DEAD IN EMPTY HOUSE (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 9. Alexander M‘Leod f aged 58, was found dead in an unoccupied house in Queen’s drive, Lyall Bay. _ He had his head, around which a piece of sacking was wrapped, inside a gas oven. The deceased was a married man, and had been living at 110 Kilbirnie crescent. FIREMAN FOUND UNCONSCIOUS (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 9. Claude A. J. Harris, single, aged about 32, employed as a fireman on the railways, was found this morning lying unconscious in the firebox of an engine in the railway yards. He was bleeding profusely from a cut in the wrist, and was admitted to the hospital in a serious condition. He was at his usual duties this morning, but left his companions, and when a search was conducted no trace of him could be found until the partlyopon door of a firebox in an engine gave a clue to hie whereabouts.
INQUEST ADJOURNED Au inquest on the body of Frank Douglas, whose death occurred after his admission to the Hospital on Friday evening, was opened before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., on Saturday morning. After evidence of identification had been given by a brother, Mr A. G. Douglas, of 33 Gilfillan street, Tainui, the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed later.
