RIFLE SHOOTING

DUNEDIN DEFENCE CLOD. The Dunedin Defence Rifle Club opened the season on. Saturday with a practice shoot of seven shots (two optional sighters) each at 500 and 600 yards. There was an attendance of 17. Weather conditions were fair. Some good scores were registered, notably that of Rifleman R. A. Alackie with 34 at each range, this giving him the fine aggregate of 68 out of a possible 70. Riflemen J. APKnight and G. H. Smith, with 31 and 33 and 32 and 32 respectively, each totalled 64. The following are the highest scores; —

WEST TAIERI DEFENCE CLUB. The first annual meeting of the West Taieri Defence Rifle Club was held in • the Outrarn Drill Hall on Thursday last. The president (Air A. Graham) preside! over a good attendance of members. The annual report stated that since the final shoot of the season several improvements to the range had been effected, including provision at the butts to accommodate an extra target. The club was in a good financial position, the balance sheet showing a credit balance of £ls 8s 6d. The election of office-bearers for the coming season resulted as follows: —President. Air A. T. Graham; deputy president, Air 11. W. Brookes; secretary, Air A. Fraser; treasurer, Air A. Colhoun; committee—Afessrs D. Hannah, H, Fraser. E. Dow, R. Campbell, L. Hughes, A. T, Graham, H. W. Brooks, A. Fraser, and A. Colhoun; Social Committee—Alctsrs R. Campbell, A. Colhoun, R. APDonald, A. W. Berry. B. Cameron, A. T. Graham, and A. Fraser; auditors, Alcssra J. I. Clayton and G. Wylie. The first shoot of the season was held on Saturday, when 20 members carried out a practice of seven shots at 500 and 600 yards. There was a difficult light and a variable wind to contend with, but, in spite of this, there were several 32s at the 500 yards range, and at 600 yards Rifleman W. Foster finished with a good 33, making him top scorer for the day with 04, Deputy-president H. W. Brookes being second with 63. The following were the highest
