BRITISH INDUSTRIES FAIR

ADVERTISING PLAN OUTLOOK FOR 1932. (From Oott Own Correspondent.) LONDON, August 13. An intensive world-wide advertising campaign has been inaugurated by the Department of Overseas Trade in preparation for next year’s British Industries Fair. A life-size silhouette figure of Britannia with upraised beckoning arm will shortly be exhibited on posters in every country in the world. Newspaper advertisements, brochures, and circular letters will be used, and the members of the Consular Service are expected to act as publicity agents for Britain’s annual “ window display.” In some countries “8.1. F.” wireless programmes are being arranged, and the British Consul will give short talks on British goods alternated with items of English music_. “ It is a remarkable fact,” says a member of the department, “in view of the trade depression, that six months before the opening date Olympia alone has 220,000 square feet booked, out of the total of 300,000 square feet available. At the White City, where the entire British textile industi-y will be represented, exhibits will cover some 100,000 square feet, while in Birmingham the heavy industries will cover 250,000 square feet. In London the furniture section ‘is already 25 per cent, larger than at the last fair, and the toys and games section also shows signs of increasing.”
