CRICKETING FAMILY

WORCESTERSHIRE * FOSTERS PARENTS’ DIAMOND WEDDING. LONDON, August 17. The diamond wedding of the Rev. Henry Foster, and Mrs Foster, parents of the world’s most famous band of cricketing brothers, was celebrated it Aberdovey. The King and Queen telegraphed them, wishing they might long be spared to their family, “ whose marvellous cricketing record is the admiration of all lovers of the game.”

Six of the Foster brothers came out of Malvern, the school in the heights of Worcestershire, and played for the county. So many were there, indeed, that the county became known as “ Fostershire.”

The most famous is “R. E.,” who made the then record test match score of 287 for England on the Sydney Cricket Ground during the 1903-4 tour. He died in 1914.
