In the course of an article in the Quarterly Review, Mr C. R. Haines says that there is no reason why the sea serpent should not be a reality. He records that in 1921 a huge mammal weighing 15 tons, not unlike an enormous elephant in some respects, was washed ashore at Cape Way. Various reported animals have still to be discovered and classified. Kenya has a huge, unknown animal ■ whose footprints §how three toes. Zululand used to have a lizard that made a track as wide as a road. There is said to he a 50 foot snake in the Upper Nile region. Mr Haines reminds his readers that the identification of the Okapi and of the dragon lizard of Java was comparatively recent.
