A sensational stabbing affray occurred in Bombay on July 23, when two British officers —Lieutenant Hext and Lieutenant Sheenan —were severely wounded. They were travelling to Poona, and were attacked while sleeping on the Punjab mail train. Their assailants leaped from the train and disappeared in the jungle Lieutenant Hext died of his wounds.
