STORMS AT SEA
ULIMAROA’S ROUGH TRIP WAVES BREAK OVER SHIP. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 4. With about 14 feet of her starboard rails near the after hatch bent inwards and iron stanchions twisted out of alignment as the result of a heavy sea at 9 : o’clock last night,, the Ulimaroa arrived from Sydney at 11.20 a.m., over four hours behind her scheduled time. Captain Wyllie said the trip was one of the worst for years. A bitterly cold wind was experienced, with biting rain squalls throughout, and high seas repeatedly broke over the ship. The Wainui, en route from Melbourne to Bluff, has advised by wireless that she is experiencing hard, southerly, heavy seas, and that yesterday she was hove to for a time. HEAVY WEATHER ON COAST SEVERAL VESSELS DELAYED. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 4. Stormy weather continues with heavy seas on both coasts, delaying shipping. The Waimea arrived from Napier today 16 hours late, and the Wingatui from Wellington 12 hours late. Both experienced very rough trips. The Kamona, which left Wellington on Thursday night, is believed to be sheltering on the coast. The liner Rangitane, which is due tomorrow from England, is encountering bad weather, and will not arrive before Thursday morning. The cargo services on the West Coast are still disorganised owing to the bars being unworkable. /
