THE MUNGANA LEASES
HEARING OF CROWN’S CLAIM HEAVY LEGAL COSTS. BRISBANE, August 4. (Received August 4, at 10 p.m.) The Mungana action, in which the Crown is claiming £30,000 damages against the four defendants —Edward Granville Theodore (Commonwealth Treasurer and former Premier of Queensland), Williain M'Cormack (a former Premier of Queensland), Peter Louis Goddard (formerly general manager of the Chillagpe State Smelters) and Frederick Reid —has now passed its ninth day. The Crown case is expected to close this week, and the defence will occupy the whole of next week. The legal costs are estimated at £450 per day.
