The first round of matches in the Victorian amateur golf championship was" remarkable for the defeat of the veteran A. Jackson by a 16-year-old golfer, H. L. Williams, who gave a fine exhibition of driving and played his irons with mechanical accuracy, eventually winning by 4 and 3. After a great struggle at the thirty-seventh, F. Bulte eliminated the former open champion, Ivo Whitton, at the final hole/ Sloan Morpeth defeated L. MThcrson 5 and 3.
