FARMERS’ DIFFICULTIES

RELIEF FROM LAND TAX SOUGHT APPEAL TO THE GOVERNMENT. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 4. A largely attended meeting of Methven farmers carried a resolution requesting the Government to grant immediate relief from the land tax, especially ’ the 1929 amendments, otherwise many farmers and pastoralists would be compelled to leave their farms. A further resolution was carried — “ That failing Government action’ the assistance of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union and the Sheepowners’ Federation be obtained in initiating a campaign to persuade Parliament and the country generally that unless some measure of relief is afforded to the farming community the primary industries must inevitably fail, bringng about the downfall of the Dominion.”
