CONDITIONS IN THE NORTH. U ■ (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, August 3. The gale which was blowing during the week-end has moderated, but there was a continuation of boisterous westerly weather to-day, with showers at intervals. After rising since mid-day on Sunday, the barometer was steady at 29.85 in. WELLINGTON, August 3. The weather was again fine, the sun shining brightly throughout the day. The wind was from the north.
CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. The weather was fine and mild to-day, following 14 of frost. A nor’wester was blowing, and it changed late in the day to W.S.W. The maximum temperature wag 60 degrees. The barometer is rising, the reading to-night being 29.40 in. STORM IN INVERCARGILL SHOP WINDOWS SHATTERED. (Per United Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, August 3. The stormy weather during the weekend reached a climax to-day when the wind reached hurricane force at times, with intermittent driving rain. One or two windows in the business area were broken owing to the exceptional force of the wind, but no damage of a serious nature has been reported. There was some, snow on Saturday, but it soon disappeared. This evening the conditions are still very boisterous.
A bitterly cold wind has been experienced on the Taieri during the last two days (writes our correspondent), following on a light fall of snow early on Saturday. Yesterday a slight amount of rain fell, and the conditions were exceedingly wintry. Stock is having a hard time, especially young lambs, of which quite a number is now to’be seen.
