DUNEDIN FIRE BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs J. Wilson (chairman), F. T. Anderson, A. Burn, S. B. Macdonald, W. A. Scott, and F. Wilkinson. The superintendent reported as follows for the month of June;—“Calls: Fires, 14; chimney fires, II; rubbish and bush, 1; false alarms—malicious 4, automatic 2, justifiable 4; —total, 36. Fires: The 14 outbreaks of fire were of a minor nature, and were caused by—Hot ashes 1, gas radiator 1, defective hearth 1, overheating 3, backfire 1, fusing of motor 1, painters burning off 1, gas left on 1, unknown 4. The buildings affected were— Workshops 4, confectionery works 1, broadcasting station 1, kitchen 1, motor 1, outhouse 1, dwellings 5. Transfer to Central Station, Castle street: The transfer of the brigade to the new Central Station was accomplished on Tuesday, June 16 The staff has settled dow» to the new conditions, and all calls have been answered promptly. Plant and staff; The plant is in good order. The staff has been employed getting the station and surroundings into order. It has been necessary to extend the hours of labour to enable this to be done. Pressure: The pressure at South Dunedin Station was—--9 a.m. 751 b, 9 p.m. 1301 b; Roslyn Station —9 a.m. 751 b, 9 p.m. 801 b. Ambulances: The ambulances travelled 835 miles and carried 109 patients.” It was decided to receive a deputation from the Green Island Council at the next board meeting with respect to fidfe protection for the borough. A letter was received from the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd., thanking the brigade for its prompt handling of a fire in the company’s store in Richardson street.
