THE SCOTLAND MATCH

NEW ZEALAND’S IMPROVED DISPLAY GOOD SECOND INNINGS TOTAL TALBOT AND MATHESON IN FORM (Special to Press Association.) GLASGOW, July 16. The New Zealand batting showed a considerable improvement in the second innings. Lowry altered the batting order and the success of Talbot and Matheson was a feature of the day’s play. Talbot batted in his best form. He was never reckless, but treated the bowling on its merits. His shots in front of the wicket was executed with freedom and power. Matheson also played a batsman’s innings. He drove powerfully and gave only one chance.

Even allowing for the mediocre nature of the Scottish attack, the display of the batsmen, generally at least, was proof positive of the batting strength at Lowry’s disposal. James and Vivian batted brightly. Mills was also. attractive towards the close of his innings. Matheson batted 147 minutes and hit seven fours. Talbot batted 110 minutes, his scoring including six fours and one six. The Scottish fielding was brilliant,, and- checked the scoring rate considerably.
